COLUMBUS, GA – The Columbus Cottonmouths Hockey Team of the SPHL returned home from a chilling road trip to Peoria, IL on Sunday, January 22. The Cottonmouths’ bus carrying 20 players and 4 staff and personnel slid off an interchange ramp between I-74 and I-55, about 20 miles from Peoria, IL on Thursday, January 19, 2017. Everyone on the bus was transported to a local hospital where they were evaluated and treated for their injuries. The game schedule for Friday, January 20 against the Peoria Rivermen was postponed, but the Cottonmouths put together a team to play on Saturday, January 21 against the Peoria Rivermen which ended in a 4-5 loss in OT. The Cottonmouths confirm that they will host 2 games at home this weekend against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.

“We will play both games at home this weekend, as usual. We had 10 players skate on Saturday morning to evaluate if they were prepared to play in Peoria, and 6 of them were cleared to play. The players were given today off to recuperate and they will all be evaluated tomorrow (Tuesday). We will have a team ready to play on Friday and Saturday night,” stated Head Coach and General Manager, Jerome Bechard.
